Shaking Up the Mariners Front-Office

If you have been watching the Mariners lately, you know that there is something wrong with this team. Many people say that they just need to shake up the roster in order to be successful. In my eyes, if you are wanting to shake up the roster, shake up the Front Office first. That way, the new players you bring in will be evaluated and acquired by new management, one who hopefully knows what they are doing.

Here are some of my nominations for General Manager:

Paul DePodesta (Special Assistant to the GM, SD Padres) - DePodesta is a numbers geek. He would have realized the Richie Sexson was not fit for the Mariners organization or a 15 million dollar per year salary. He has had GM expierience before, as he ran the LA Dodgers orginization (04-05). DePodesta was Billy Beane's Assistant GM during the Moneyball era, and was the one behind evaluating players such as Nick Swisher, Mike Teahen, and Joe Blanton.

Kim Ng (VP & Assistant GM, LA Dodgers) - Ng is one of the 2 female executives in baseball today. According to her profile provided by the Dodgers: "Ng was recently tabbed one of '10 to Watch' by Baseball America in its 25th anniversary issue saluting the most influential people in the game.". Ng would at least bring some excitement to this team, and stir up some enthusiasm.

John Barr (Special Assistant to the GM, SF Giants) - Barr has been credited with the signings of such household names as Mike Mussina, A.J. Burnett, Russell Martin, Jonathan Broxton and Scott Proctor. Someone with a great history of evaluating player would be great for the organization with that problem lately.

Once Bill Bavasi is fired, this team will finally be able to improve itself once again.
