Pretty simple recap on the season opener, the Redskins just failed miserably on offense. No big surprise there. Jason Campbell was decent at best stats wise, but he played an awful game. He failed to manage a comeback at the end, throwing too many short routes and check downs when the team desperately needed him to step up and move the ball. The running game was also surprisingly ineffective, rushing for only 84 yards (all by Clinton Portis).
The Giants offensive attack was also not as much of a success as they would like it to be. They looked flawless on the opening drive, scoring on a rushing TD by Eli Manning, but failed to capitalize on other opportunities throughout the game. The percieved pass rush problem coming into this game was also an issue for the G-Men, who only accumulated 1 sack in the game. One thing to keep an eye on is the injury to Mathias Kiwanuka, who had his ankle roll over on him during the last play of the game (reports are he is fine).
Recap:
Offensive MVP: Brandon Jacobs, Giants - 21 Carries, 116 yards
Defensive MVP: London Fletcher, Redskins - 17 tackles (12 solo)
Play of the game: I was thoroughly excited when Brandon Jacobs bowled over Laron Landry for a big game. Good to see the power running game still exsits.
Look Ahead: Wk 2
Washington vs. Saints - Lets see if the offense can click vs. New Orleans' sub par D.
